a song for no(body

.

A yellow flower
(Light and spirit)
Sings by itself
For nobody.
A golden spirit
(Light and emptiness)
Sings without a word
By itself.
Let no one touch this gentle sun
In whose dark eye
Someone is awake.
(No light, no gold, no name, no color
And no thought:
O, wide awake!)
A golden heaven
Sings by itself
A song to nobody.

—Thomas Merton

  1. What a beautiful poem by Thomas Merton! The imagery of the yellow flower and the golden spirit conveys such a sense of solitude and serenity. I love how it captures the essence of something vibrant and alive, yet deeply introspective. The lines about awakening and the absence of labels really resonate, inviting us to appreciate the beauty in simplicity. Thank you for sharing this lovely piece!
